ITHS CHITTAGONG BRANCH OBSERVED INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY



International Turkish Hope School Chittagong Branch organized a programme on the event of International Mother Language Day today, 21st February, 2013, at its Sugondha Campus.

The programme was carried out by junior and senior section students. It included placing of floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, at the school campus and a cultural gathering which contained the recitation of poetries, dramas and patriotic songs by the students where performed effectively.

Mr. Fatih Mollaalioglu, Deputy Head, said in his speech in Bangla that `International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999 (30C/62). International Mother Language Day has been observed every year in our school to promote Bangla. The date signifies the day – 1952, when students demonstrating for recognition of their mother language. It is a commemoration of the sacrifices of Bengali people in their struggle to secure their mother-tongue and an overall celebration of “linguistic tradition, cultural diversity and multilingualism. According to UNESCO, of the 6912 languages spoken around the world, Bangla is the 7th most spoken language with approximately 215 million speakers worldwide and 6th most spoken mother language. `

Languages are the most influential instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage. All moves to promote the dissemination of mother tongues will serve not only to encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education but also to develop fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.
Guardians said, `We are enormously pleased to see that our kids, future of Bangladesh, are fully aware of this meaningful day of our nation. We thank to the school management and the teachers for arranging such a pleasing function.
ITHS cordially commemorate all the national days of Bangladesh. We are very happy to raise a devoted generation to their country knowing the value of such days and deeply loving their country, Bangladesh.
