ITHS CHITTAGONG BRANCH OBSERVED INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY
International
Turkish Hope School Chittagong Branch organized a programme on the event of
International Mother Language Day today, 21st February, 2013, at its Sugondha
Campus.
The
programme was carried out by junior and senior section students. It included
placing of floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, at the school campus and a cultural
gathering which contained the recitation of poetries, dramas and patriotic songs
by the students where performed effectively.
Mr.
Fatih Mollaalioglu, Deputy Head, said in his speech in Bangla that
`International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the General Conference of
the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999 (30C/62). International Mother Language Day has been
observed every year in our school to promote Bangla. The date signifies the day – 1952, when students demonstrating for
recognition of their mother language. It is a commemoration of the sacrifices
of Bengali people in their struggle to secure their mother-tongue and an
overall celebration of “linguistic tradition, cultural diversity and
multilingualism. According to UNESCO, of the 6912 languages spoken around the
world, Bangla is the 7th most spoken language with approximately 215
million speakers worldwide and 6th most spoken mother
language. `
Languages are the most influential
instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage.
All moves to promote the dissemination of mother tongues will serve not only to
encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education but also to develop
fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and
to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue.
Guardians said, `We are enormously
pleased to see that our kids, future of Bangladesh , are fully aware of this
meaningful day of our nation. We thank to the school management and the
teachers for arranging such a pleasing function.
ITHS cordially commemorate all the
national days of Bangladesh .
